Coming straight out of school in September of 2011, I was pretty unsure of how I was going to manage starting a practice only knowing for sure after my PEAK experience that I did not want to work for someone else. I had spent too long in school to not work for myself. I reached out to HealthSource for some guidance given that I knew next to nothing about running a business, documentation and coding, and acquiring new patient on a regular basis. I was put in contact with Dr. Bart Anderson and Dr. Damon Walton with the Launch U program for the possibility of opening a practice in Texas. I was very excited and still a little nervous about the whole process.
In October I headed to Illinois for two weeks of training at Launch U. Here we covered everything I needed to get my practice up and running. I felt like in these two weeks I learned more about the business of chiropractic and how to acquire patients than I did in 4 years at chiropractic school. In our business I think we just feel like we just have to put a sign up and do a few screenings and then the referrals just start pouring in, unfortunately that isn’t what happens. This is why Launch U and the whole HealthSource family has been a huge help. Launch U had me ready to open my doors by December 19th of 2011, just 3 short months after I had graduated.
Within 4 months of opening I was seeing over 100 patient visits a week and collecting 30k a month. More importantly I was getting people well and also getting paid for it, which was good because it was time to pay back loans. With the help of HealthSource I understood how to code for the service I was providing without having to worry if I was going to get paid by insurance or if I was sending up red flags. I didn’t have to waste time coming up with a niche to market; I only had to take what has been proven to work and work as hard as I could at it. This was huge for me because I had no idea coming out of school how to do this. HealthSource removed the guess work for me. If I ever have a question on anything there are about 15 people I can call and get an answer immediately. It is a huge relief having that kind of support. Trust me there is enough to worry about when first opening.
Looking back there is no way I would open a practice without HealthSource. The training is constant and we are always striving to grow and get better. The support is unreal; I never have a question that doesn’t get answered. I suggest to anyone who is coming out of school or even anyone who has been in practice struggling, to become a part of the HealthSource family. I guess I am lucky to not have run into too many struggles in my first few months but then again I don’t think it is luck I just think I made the right decision to be a part of such a great team and support system.
